Simplicity
Products of daily use
I designed a range of simple and smart everyday products for Indian homes, which address everyday activities or supplement them; are simple to use, yet smart, clever and efficient in their design.
In a market that is getting increasingly competent with a plethora of home stores that offer furniture, upholstery, and accessories, @home wanted to differentiate itself not only through an exceptional experience and service at its stores but also, more importantly, through its products.
All products offered, aimed to enhance the quality of life and make one feel completely and truly at home. However, the then current range offered only furniture and decorative accessories, leaving a gap for products which catered to smaller everyday activities. @home planned to introduce products that were extremely simple to use, yet brought ease in daily activities and areas of the home through a smart solution.
The project thus needed to identify such areas of the house or activities in day to day life that could be eased by the introduction of smart and simple products, effortless to use, yet clever in their design; they would add value to the lives of the people using them. The products not being defined initially, gained clarity only after conducting interviews with customers and identifying areas of the home that had maximum potential for such products and also business prospects for the company.
After interviews with customers and studying their homes, various possible areas for work were listed down and a category was narrowed down upon as it had a good opportunity for such products and was an area @home had not ventured into. Thus, keeping scope for products and company prospects in mind, the project brief was redefined as ‘Smart and Simple Products for Indian Bathrooms.’
