Brand identity
My project brief was to identify Design Habit, a multidisciplinary design company that has been primarily designing museums for the past 24 years (an experience rarely found in India), and come up with an identity and its applications on various media.
Globalization has brought a prominent amount of change in the attitude towards design in India, as a result of which many new design studios have set up base all over the country in the last ten years, and are being employed by the government as well as by private sectors to fulfil their design needs. Such healthy competition amongst the studios has resulted in quality work deliverance.
I started the project by studying my client and the area of design in which they work, to get an idea about the kind of image they hold in the market. After gathering an ample amount of information, I started with the design process and came up with an identity that was agreed upon and accepted by the client. The further designing of applications like office stationery (envelope, letterhead, and visiting card) and their official website templates were carried out in sync with Design Habit’s vision and philosophy.
My final work was a logotype that simply expressed the unusual combination of two words ‘design’ and ‘habit,’ and yet maintained the poise that the company carried.
The experience of creating a brand identity for the company was unusual because I was experiencing their profession from very close and also had to face many points of view which made the process different. I realized the true meaning of the process being more important than the end result. It has the potential of being interpreted in more than one way yet it doesn’t allow one to deviate from its core meaning.
