My promotional film for the National Institute of Design (NID), urges one to break away from the conventional. The client brief mentioned the purpose of the film, which was to provide a visual glimpse of life, learning, and culture at NID. The film had to come in handy in portraying NID’s different disciplines and its learning culture.
The structure of the film is pregnant with contrasts, where the dilemmas of young individuals, who are intelligent enough to question but lack a certain direction, are placed against the simple solutions being offered at NID. The first part is a thought about the existing notions of education and learning. These thoughts exist in the minds of any and all young individuals, who are unsure about what they desire from life.
The purpose of the film, from here on, is to answer these thoughts and doubts. The second part of the film showcases the experience of being at NID in terms of intellectual growth as well as broadening of horizons. It urges the viewer to drop conventional notions about design being perceived merely as a hobby. It is meant to motivate a young audience to consider it as a fulfilling and creatively satisfying career option.
To condense everything that has enriched me, from the first day of this project till the very last, is almost impossible. My experience of being a student at the National Institute of Design has extended itself into the existence of this film. Hopefully, it will prove to be a source of motivation for any student wishing to venture into design as a way of life, who at the moment might be at some crossroads, wondering which direction to head towards.
