For my project, I worked on animation in mobile contents. The project was quite exciting and innovative, as I had to work on different mobile contents like mobile alerts, reminders, and alarms as well as to create an animated character and a comic strip in the form of animation.
I had to select nine different important basic alerts in a mobile phone and come up with animated shorts - funny, quirky and interesting enough to grab the user’s attention. The proposed character was called the ‘postman,’ the character design of which was already done before. I made some minor changes to make it simple enough to be animated.
For the reminders, we chose the ant and the elephant theme as it has been the base of many Indian jokes. The basic contrast in their sizes was also thought to lend a comic element to the whole concept. A concept where several ants stick on a tea stain to form the word “meeting” was used as a meeting reminder. For alarms in mobiles, clocks were selected to be animated as they represent the concept of alarms most literally.
I worked on the production and post-production part of a character trailer. I got the description of the character, which was that of a very famous female drug dealer, and an image of her facial structure. On that basis, I had to come up with a suitable character. During my tenure at Phi Abode, I also animated two comic strips – ‘Bhow–Bhow’ and ‘Offline-Online,’ with a street-dog and a child as the main characters respectively.
Today, when I sit and think about my project, I still see a lot of scope for improvement and further development, yet I feel that this project has given me exciting learning opportunities in terms of handling software and getting used to them.
