Death
I created a four to five minute animation film using different techniques. At the outset, I was clear that the animation had to have a universal appeal and relate to the audience, with or without dialogues.
After four years at NID, I was not very confident about my animating skills and so, I wanted to make a film that would show my own struggles with this field. Hence, the story is about an overworked animator, dramatically dying from the lack of inspiration. The grim reaper appears to put an end to her misery. She is stimulated by his magnificence and with a burst of new life she begins to draw him. He is sucked into her drawing and becomes a part of her animation.
There are a number of techniques or mediums used in the film. The story developed with time; each technique played a part in the final outcome. One of the most apparent reasons was that it went well with the film. The film, like the dilemma of the animator in it, is about finding oneself. Each look reflects a certain mood, and though most of the film falls under the broader category of 2D - whether its rotoscope, old fashioned 2D or even anime - each of them is extremely different, and very crucial for the film. The failure of the techniques, shown in the film, brings comic relief to the story as the grim reaper gets tortured.
The project taught me that we should not let failure deter us or get in the way of what we love the most; to keep moving on with motivation, love every moment of life, and keep trying to do our best, whether things work out or not should be the goal.
