The brief given to me was to make a humorous film for a mature audience. Hence, my scope of work ranged from designing it to suit a more generic adult audience so that it could be further developed into a television series to encourage animation as a medium for adults, quite contrary to the general belief that animation is a medium for amusing children.
My film tells a humorous story that I had written about an excitable mongrel dog, which goes out in search of a possible mate. The dog keeps looking for a partner, but every time he comes close to finding someone appropriate, something goes wrong. As he follows his course, he finally meets a partner who is just like him. But, his quest never ends.
The story is a satirical take on how we maintain our relationships. The film deals with a subject, which is sexual and adult in nature. It talks about our sexual urges and choices we make consciously in a relationship. It is my interpretation of what most relationships have been reduced to today. It is about the temptation that we all secretly go through, of wanting and needing something but never being completely satisfied once we have it. It is about aimless but all engulfing desire which creates a never-ending journey of frustration in man.
This project has led me to believe that it’s high time we break free from the false notion that “animation = cartoon = children.” In fact, animation has proven very effective in getting ideas across. More mature content should be encouraged so that the gamut of target audience is widened to include grownups apart from children.
