This project set me the task of designing and developing the overall interiors for a food court in a mall. My prime work was to develop the furniture for it.
The project recognized the shift in our society’s taste for retailing and entertainment and accepted it as a designer’s challenge to break free from the stereotypes and constraints of tradition; a wonderful experience that brought out the most ingenious design ideas to satisfy the change.
‘Eva’ Mall by the Prestige Group of Builders is a mall for women and children located on Brigade Road, Bengaluru. Each floor of the mall is meant for various brands of retail. An entire floor, housed on the terrace, is set aside for the food court. The food court in this mall is the second of its kind by the Prestige Group. However, it had to be absolutely different from the earlier food court with a completely different theme.
Coming up with a concept to work on for the place was preliminary. But, first an analysis of what a food court is was carried out. Considering this, I carried out an extensive research via the internet and thorough surveys of different food courts locally and abroad to understand the present scenario of food courts, how they operate, what their key features are and what the psyche of the customers coming there is.
Besides the design aspect, I got an opportunity to work on a critical path that ensured a strict time schedule for the completion of the project. The almost daily review of the status of the different areas of work ensured that the project got completed on time. The project was a perfect balance in terms of creativity and practicality and a memorable journey all the way through.
