UI Pattern Library for Mobile UI
My project brief was to create a mobile User Experience (UX) Design based on Infosys MConnect technology. I had to build a mobile User Interface (UI) for a sports portal website for all the mobile phones across all platforms for which a case study was done on Erasports.
The scope of the work involved research and analysis including studying different mobile platforms available, mobile graphic design, mobile interaction along with upcoming technology in this area, determining functional requirements, feature sets, and conceptual direction for the mobile scenario, deriving the respective information architecture and the navigation structure, and designing the User Experience (UX) framework.
The assignment involved understanding the influencing factors for designing with MConnect technology and applying this to an application scenario that included mobile extensions for a sports social networking portal. I eventually had to create a UI pattern library, which would be helpful in creating future mobile applications. I was required to study the existing portal of Erasports and work on creating the UI for those components that constitute an extension to mobile interactions.
The learning was then documented as a pattern library. This UI pattern library was made for mobile phone applications, which were to be designed by the developers of the Set labs team at Infosys. The interaction patterns were such that they could be reused for building other mobile applications so that interaction designers could avail the benefit of this library and its features rapidly and consistently.
It was very interesting to see what different advancements are happening in this area both in form and in technology used. Apart from this, industry exposure was an essential aspect of the diploma project. Working in a professional environment was a very different experience and it was challenging to match the standards and expectations of the industry.
